AMC Awarded BNY Mellon Project

Winter is a busy time of year with the bustle of the holiday season. It’s busy for AMC too, but not just because of the holidays. We are getting underway with one of our recently awarded projects at BNY Mellon for the Turner Construction Group. The Bank of New York Mellon project will be a complete cooling tower and boiler replacement. Nothing makes us happier than being busy!

We are excited to be working with long-time partner, Turner, on this fast-paced project. Check back for progress pictures!

AMC Awarded Jersey City Public Safety HQ Project

We are excited to announce our latest project at the new Jersey City Public Safety Headquarters building. AMC will partner with the McCloskey Mechanical team to perform the wetside mechanical portion of this core-and-shell project. Our work includes a complete condenser and hot water system for the new state-of-the-art, 11-story, 120,000 square foot office building. We are eager to work alongside the McCloskey team again, with our focus on safety, quality and on-time job completion.

The Jersey City Public Safety Headquarters building will house the Police, Fire and 911 dispatch operations of Jersey City. The city is spending $188 million to create a municipal campus that will include community driven services and engagement, as well as centralize City Operations and Public Safety together within the same location to enable them to work more cohesively. The Safety HQ will be the 4th building within this newly designed campus located within the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood: newly branded as “Jackson Square.” The building will be next to the recently completed City Hall Annex at the corner of MLK Drive and Kearny Avenue.

Work is expected to begin next month. Check back for progress pictures!

AMC Adopts S.A.F.E. Mantra

Many companies tout Safety as a priority. For us, Safety isn’t just a priority as priorities can change day-to-day. Instead, Safety is part of our core values. We foster a culture at AMC in which Safety is part of everything we do – we live it and breathe it every day, on the jobsite and at home. We are continuously working to find new ways to keep Safety part of the way we think. Taking the lead from partner companies we’ve worked for like Verizon, we are now incorporating the mantra Always S.A.F.E. into everything we do.

By Always S.A.F.E. we mean being Smart, Aware, Focused and Equipped at all times. This proactive approach puts us ahead of danger with one goal in mind: avoid it altogether. Over the next several months, we will have weekly meetings with our field workers to elaborate and further discuss ways to ensure we are Always S.A.F.E. on jobsites.

Smart. At AMC we want our team to be smart about their work and make safety-conscious decisions. This starts with having a plan for the day, the week and the month ahead. Being prepared enables us to avoid last minute workarounds which can pose risk. Consequently, securing the plan empowers us to ensure the safety provisions needed for that plan.

Aware. Being aware of your surroundings, including not only what you see, but what you hear can mean the difference between a safe outcome and a disastrous one.

Focused. When our team stays on task, it not only helps with on-time job completion, but also reinforces our concentration while using machinery and equipment properly, all while helping to avoid missed steps in a process.

Equipped. When our team is following the guidance above and are properly prepared for what is expected of them, being equipped is the final step to guarantee a safe environment. We want our team to have the right tools and equipment for the tasks required. Makeshift efforts lead to accidents all too often.

Being proactive and prepared will result in prevention of hazards and accidents. A safe work environment above all enables us to keep our valued team safe, while maintaining on-time job completion. Special thanks to recently promoted Foreman, Ron Schmitges, for this great suggestion!

AMC Awarded 3 New Verizon Projects

AMC is pleased to announce the addition of three new Verizon projects:  Verizon Fords and Verizon Bergen HSB & Engine Replacement along with Verizon Halsey Street Mechanical Equipment Replacement. The Halsey Street project, in a building AMC is very familiar with from previous work, is the beginning of a full CRAC unit upgrade for their data center including 16 new dry coolers and the first 8 CRAC units.The Fords and Bergen projects are upgrades to the AC Units along with completely new fuel oil systems to support their backup generators.

We are appreciative and privileged that AECOM Tishman has put continued trust in our team. We will continue to put our best foot forward to ensure quality project management and on-time job completion while keeping safety a priority. Check back for progress pictures and updates!

Nouryon Awarded to AMC

We love springtime at Advanced Mechanical! The flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, and the team is busy preparing for our latest project. That project is Nouryon, awarded to AMC by Gilbane Building Company. 

Nouryon is a global specialty chemicals leader manufacturing everyday products for markets worldwide. Boasting nearly 400 years of history, Nouryon operates in over 80 countries producing products such as paper, plastics, building materials, food, pharmaceuticals, and person care items. The Bridgewater, NJ location will be getting a complete HVAC upgrade of the heating and chilled water system including new chillers, boilers, RTUs, ERUs and pump packages.  

Work will begin this month with substantial completion is expected by October. We are excited to be working with the stellar team at Gilbane again. Check back for progress pictures!

AMC Meets Customers’ Fabrication Needs

In its latest edition, Contractor Magazine highlights the upward trend of prefabrication. AMC is one of only a few UA Certified Fabrication Shops in NJ. In addition to fabricating pipe in-house for safer, on-time completion of our projects, we also perform specialty projects in exact accordance with customers’ design requirements. This allows for cost reductions, no weather delays on systems for outdoor locations, controlled materials, no disruption to project schedule, improved quality of final product, better testing process and reduced safety concerns on jobsite, particularly in the age of Covid when prefabrication could enable less men on site.

Our shop is equipped with an overhead crane, advanced welding and cutting tools, an abundance of space for storing tools and fabrication, a ventilation system and loading docks for both drive-in and drive-up which double as a good source of fresh air during the nicer weather months.

Our whole process with our in-house BIM design capabilities, where we take the contract drawings to a shop drawing, then to a coordinated drawing and from there create our spool sheets for the shop team. This process has been a large part of AMC’s success.
