Many companies tout Safety as a priority. For us, Safety isn’t just a priority as priorities can change day-to-day. Instead, Safety is part of our core values. We foster a culture at AMC in which Safety is part of everything we do – we live it and breathe it every day, on the jobsite and at home. We are continuously working to find new ways to keep Safety part of the way we think. Taking the lead from partner companies we’ve worked for like Verizon, we are now incorporating the mantra Always S.A.F.E. into everything we do.
By Always S.A.F.E. we mean being Smart, Aware, Focused and Equipped at all times. This proactive approach puts us ahead of danger with one goal in mind: avoid it altogether. Over the next several months, we will have weekly meetings with our field workers to elaborate and further discuss ways to ensure we are Always S.A.F.E. on jobsites.
Smart. At AMC we want our team to be smart about their work and make safety-conscious decisions. This starts with having a plan for the day, the week and the month ahead. Being prepared enables us to avoid last minute workarounds which can pose risk. Consequently, securing the plan empowers us to ensure the safety provisions needed for that plan.
Aware. Being aware of your surroundings, including not only what you see, but what you hear can mean the difference between a safe outcome and a disastrous one.
Focused. When our team stays on task, it not only helps with on-time job completion, but also reinforces our concentration while using machinery and equipment properly, all while helping to avoid missed steps in a process.
Equipped. When our team is following the guidance above and are properly prepared for what is expected of them, being equipped is the final step to guarantee a safe environment. We want our team to have the right tools and equipment for the tasks required. Makeshift efforts lead to accidents all too often.
Being proactive and prepared will result in prevention of hazards and accidents. A safe work environment above all enables us to keep our valued team safe, while maintaining on-time job completion. Special thanks to recently promoted Foreman, Ron Schmitges, for this great suggestion!
